Unparalyzed 05:17
Unparalyzed Steve Hindalong, Marc Byrd, Christy Byrd (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Blue Raft Music, BMI / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) I never would want to be the one To stand in the way of the morning sun And cast a shadow on you I’m a sinking man in the sea of doubt If I take your hand, could you lift me out? I’ll walk on water with you I’m looking for Something to believe in I think I might have found it in your eyes Please give me one thing Some kind of good medicine (Love is the best medicine) To make my frozen soul unparalyzed The cynical slope is a greasy ride A troublesome trip down a treacherous slide Leaving faith and hope behind I want to hold tight to the gospel truth To pray the prayers I prayed in my youth But I’m not gonna shut my mind And I will not cover my eyes Wearing white wool won’t disguise the sin Of a satisfied wolf with his tongue in the wind And blood on his fur Your faith is dark if it makes you cruel And when my own blind heart is unmerciful Divine love is the cure That’s one thing I know for sure I ‘m looking for… (a window to heaven) I never would want to be the one To stand in the way of the morning sun And cast a shadow on you Steve Hindalong - vocal, drums Marc Byrd - electric guitars, acoustic 12 string, keys, programming Tim F. Chandler - bass Britt Edwards - keys Christy Byrd - vocal Wayne Everett - vocal, music box intro, “I’m not sure how I’m gonna find the one”

Not Thinkin’ Anymore Steve Hindalong, Eric Stephen (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / E.Stephen Songs, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) I moved into the shadow To see the light I dove into the water To reach for the blue sky I ran straight into a war zone To feel no pain I fell into the heart of a hurricane To swallow the ocean rain I'm not thinkin’ anymore I’m not thinkin’ any more I’m not thinkin’ anymore Never did me no good before Driven back into delusion By the hand of time When you said you didn’t want me I went right out of my mind I got lost in the garden When she smiled Drawn to the fire in her eyes Betrayed by the sun dial I’m not thinkin’ anymore... Disregarding space and time Evading the laws of science I will not offer reason for rhyme Rising with the ghost of defiance I’m not thinkin’ anymore… (Who am I? Where am I? What am I?) Steve Hindalong - vocal, drums, percussion Tim F. Chandler - bass Dwayne Larring - acoustic and electric guitars Lynn Arthur Nichols - electric 12 string guitar Phil Madeira - B-3 organ Wayne Everett - vocal

Oblivious 04:51
Oblivious Steve Hindalong, Matt Wilder (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Bogue Sound, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) It’s hard to fight an enemy That you can’t identify Bombs exploding in your head And you’re running for dear life I don’t wanna stop the music And I won’t put out the fire Lightning flashing in your eyes And we never felt more alive Sorry lovers Caught in a rain storm Oblivious to the thunder Deaf to the cannon roar Oblivious... If the devil rules the underworld And he throws fiery darts While cherubim and seraphim Shoot arrows through our hearts Are we merely hapless victims of our frail humanity Or are we just afraid to take responsibility Sorry lovers Caught in a rain storm Oblivious to the thunder Deaf to the cannon roar Are we lovers Blind to the firestorm Like a piper and a drummer Oblivious to the war, oblivious… So I’ll shake my fist at heaven And ignore the voice within Feel the thunder in my bones And dance ‘til the bitter end I don’t wanna stop the music And I can’t put out the fire Lightning flashing in your eyes And we never felt more alive Lovers… Steve Hindalong - vocal, drums, percussion Andy Prickett - acoustic and electric guitars, keys Eric Compuzano - bass Britt Edwards - keys Wayne Everett - percussion Christy Byrd - vocal

Love You Bad Steve Hindalong, Matt Wilder (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Bogue Sound, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. I’m not gonna drown in a tearful mire Not gonna melt in a flame of desire But I love you, I love you, I love you I love you bad Don’t be sorry, honey, don’t be sad The sky is falling, nevermind that Sweet girl, you know I love you I love you bad I won’t cry… I need more sorrow like I need more bad religion Steve Hindalong - vocal, acoustic guitar, drums, percussion Matt Wilder - bass Marc Byrd - electric guitars Britt Edwards - keys Matt Slocum - cello Christy Byrd - vocal

Lucky and Blessed Steve Hindalong (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) Scratchin' at the ocean floor You may find it, the silver pearl But you don't really need much more If you find one true friend in this world I'm singin' out like Neil Young Never mind not as good Suckin' air into my lungs Blood flowin’ where it should Beatin’ the hell out of my drums Knockin' on wood Lucky and blessed and life is good Lucky and blessed and life is good You know for sure you're alive When you're feelin' a little pain I wanna dance real close to the fire And make love in the pourin' rain I’m singin’ out like Neil Young... Yeah, I know the way it feels To hold your breath and try not to breathe Ashamed, with nowhere to hide But there comes a time you surely should Sock that dragon in the eye and say “Hey, there’s room for me in the glorious sky I won't be denied, I will not be denied Gonna flap my wings and fly” I’m singin’ out like Neil Young… Steve Hindalong - vocal acoustic guitar, drums, percussion Tim F. O Jimmy A 03:34
O Jimmy A Steve Hindalong (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) I think it was New Mexico On the roof of that RV Amazed how enlightened we are The darkness surrendered to you and to me Under the spell of a zillion stars O Jimmy A O hey Jimmy A O Jimmy A O hey Jimmy hey Nevermind my lungs, roll me one anyway O Jimmy A O hey Jimmy A Strummin' away in your gallery With a tin of sardines Talkin' about tryin' to hang on To faith, hope and love, whatever that means And I found a resonant box to bang on O Jimmy A... The nearer you get to nearly gone blind The clearer you see what I’m hoping to find Perfecting the art of inspired imperfection Could you point your white cane in the right direction? O Jimmy A… Steve Hindalong - vocal, drums, percussion, acoustic 12 string Chris Donahue - bass Marc Byrd - electric guitars Britt Edwards - keys Matt Slocum - cello Christy Byrd - vocal Kevin Max - vocal

Shellie’s Song Steve Hindalong, Matt Wilder (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Bogue Sound, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) I nearly slipped off o’ your porch step Coulda cracked my head I was just around the corner shakin’ a tambourine Here’s a bottle of red It’s a trepadacious floor we’re slidin’ on Californians drivin’ on ice And I know you’ve got trouble worse than I’ve known But we’re all holdin’ on for dear life I stopped by to say hello Left a message on Leo’s phone I won’t stay long anyway Hey, you look beautiful today I don’t have any song to sing To take away your suffering So I’ll just bother you for awhile Feel the warmth of your sweet smile Is it ok to laugh? Is it alright to cry? Your faithful friends who love you They’re prayin’ for healing rain Dancin’ under heaven, wearin’ turquoise and feathers Still the sky won’t change So you drink another vial of poison Surrender again to the knife Wedding bells are ringin’ for your little girl It's a fine day to celebrate life I stopped by to say hello... It's a dizzifying world we’re spinnin’ on Holdin’ on for precious life The merciful face of Jesus the healer Is fuzzy in our eyes I stopped by to say hello… (Delerium Room / ASCAP / Bogue Sound / ASCAP / 2016) Steve Hindalong - vocal, drums, percussion, hand claps Marc Byrd - electric guitars Tim F. Chandler - bass Britt Edwards - vocal, keys Christy Byrd - vocal, hand claps Wayne Everett - vocal Matt Wilder - hand claps

Cloud burst 05:03
Cloud Burst Steve Hindalong, Wayne Everett (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP, California Viking Productions, BMI / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) My father is graduating from a walker to a cane Praising God for cannabis, shrinking the tumor in his daughter’s brain He wants to carry her cross to the top of the hill We all live with longings unfulfilled My brother is craving a drink today, his whiskey barrel is dry He’s tryin’ to draw blood from a stone, and cursing a merciless sky His spirit is in a ditch but it ain't killed We all live with longing unfulfilled Waiting for a cloud burst Praying for a cloud burst Crawling over the parched earth On blistered knees, our souls dying of thirst Crying for a cloud burst Ever since she was a child I loved her and I know she loved me And now we’re learning to love each other by setting each other free You’ve gotta carry your own cross to the top of the hill We all live with longing unfulfilled You’ve gotta carry your own cross to the top of the hill Everyone lives with longing unfulfilled Waiting for a cloud burst... Sometimes clouds burst Steve Hindalong - vocal, acoustic guitar, percussion, harmonica Wayne Everett - vocal, drums, percussion, acoustic guitar Justin Cary - bass Lynn Arthur Nichols - acoustic and electric guitars Stephen Leiweke - electric guitar Matt Slocum - electric guitar Britt Edwards - keys Jeffrey Niemeier - violin Christy Byrd - vocal

Into the Drink Steve Hindalong (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) Safe and away from the searchlight Over the edge of the bow I’m making my way to the shadow Feeling a lot better now Blessed oblivion blind me Morning sun be slow My guardian angel won’t find me ‘Cause she won’t go where I go Into the arms of my cruelest friend My truest enemy Tonight I’m diving into the drink Less of a romp than a journey More of a quest than a lark I’m goin’ down deep in a hurry Into the merciful dark Blessed oblivion blind me... The ocean Forever luring me into the heart of tranquility Where bitter tears flow like rivers to a peaceful sea Well that’s the lie nobody believes Safe and away from the searchlight Over the edge of the bow I’m making my way to the shadow Feeling invincible now Blessed oblivion save me Morning sun be damned The demon in my head won’t know me If I forget who I am In the arms of my cruelest friend, my truest enemy Tonight I’m diving into Tonight I’m diving into Tonight I’m diving into the drink Steve Hindalong - vocal, acoustic guitar Matt Slocum - cello Jeffrey Niemeier - violin Britt Edwards - piano

Outta My Mind Steve Hindalong, Matt Wilder (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Bogue Sound, ASCAP / 2016 / Admin. Simpleville Music) These chains are an illusion of my own imagination Devices of delusion holdin’ me down I'm gonna ride a gondola To the top of a Swiss mountain Where cowbells ring for miles around I’m gettin’ outta my head before I go outta my mind Gonna fly through the window Leave my skeleton behind Gonna dance with every wondrous Creature that I find, I'm gonna get Outta my head before I go outta my mind Now I'm weary of waging war with myself Like a priest who whips own back raw Inventing his own hell There is no noose around my neck I’m gonna to go free, I'm gonna fly far I see light between the curtains No more cryin' in the dark I’m gettin’ outta my head before I go outta my mind I'm tellin’ you, my friend What I'm tryin’ to tell myself You’ve gotta get your mind out of the dungeon Before you can enlighten somebody else I’m gettin outta my head before I go outta my mind… Steve Hindalong - vocal, acoustic guitar, drums, percussion Tim F. The Warbler 05:22
The Warbler Steve Hindalong (New Spring Publishing / ASCAP / 1996) What about that thunder we hear Anytime the lightning reappears Never fear the darkness or the shock Thirty six hundred strokes before heaven Already eleven o’clock Listen to the warbler’s rhapsody He never chirps any funereal melody He doesn’t mind the night sky or the hawk Sorry lovers, take wing under heaven Bells ringing eleven o’clock, eleven o’clock You must believe it true when I swear we’re alive Beware the deceiver He’s a killer and a liar The chiller of desire Your spirit and your eyes are on fire Celebrate the wonder of lunar light Listen how the coyote sings at the sight Nevermind that drum dirge you hear droning Fade away into oblivion Let decay anyone moaning, anyone moaning You must believe it true when I swear we’re alive Beware the deceiver She’s a killer and a liar The chiller of desire Your spirit and your eyes are on fire Listen to the warbler’s rhapsody He never sings any funereal melody Disregard anybody moaning Nevermind that drum dirge droning What about that thunder we both hear Anytime the lightning reappears Never dread the mystery or the shock… Listen to the music The music in the sky Eleven o’clock, it’s only eleven o’clock... (Thirty six hundred strokes to touch heaven) Steve Hindalong - vocal, electric guitar, drums Tim F. Antithesis of Blue Steve Hindalong (Flying Frog Music, ASCAP / Derri Products, ASCAP / 2014 / Admin. Simpleville Music) I woke up this morning Fixed a cup of smoky brew My baby done left me A long list of things to do That’s why I’m here To make her wishes come true True love is the antithesis of blue I stepped out on the carport Got a nail in my shoe Started thinkin’ ‘bout the gospel How the story is kind and cruel It was the day after Easter Jesus was no longer dead So I hit the highway With a song in my head I walked into the kitchen No denying what was true I never got one thing done I had sincerely intended to do She said, “You always were a wanderer Honey, that ain’t nothin’ new Now go out in the garden And cut me some parsley And fire up the barbeque Is that something you can do?” I said, “that’s why I’m here To make your wishes come true” True love is the antithesis of blue Steve Hindalong - vocal, acoustic guitar Justin Cary - stand-up bass Lynn Arthur Nichols - electric guitar Jimmy Abegg - banjo Wayne Everett - percussion

about

This is Steve Hindalong's (from The Choir) 2nd solo ablum.

The Warbler - Credits

Some fine souls loved me well while making this record. I wrote a few songs with my friend, Matt Wilder, who struck a match and lit a fire under me. His wife, Brittany, said she really liked my voice, which gave me just the boost of confidence I needed to record a few songs with his pal, Britt Edwards (Center Street, Old Hickory, TN). Britt is a great gear tweaker (engineer) and it was nice to have a tasteful keyboard player at the wheel for a change. Those guys produced Unparalyzed, Love You Bad, Lucky and Blessed, Shellie’s Song, Outta My Mind and O Jimmy A. Chris Cameron assisted and shot the Kickstarter video stuff. I invested time wisely at my brother, Marc Byrd’s place (Breathturn, Franklin, TN) for some pre-production and general artistic alignment. He recorded some of his own guitars on several songs and a few other things also on Unparalyzed including my random narrative about the snowy night Chris Colbert went out for beer and broke his wrist. For a change of scenery I went over to Lynn Nichols’ studio (Spencer Creek, Franklin, TN) to work with him and Dwayne Larring. Dwayne flips levers handily and both guys are passionate to the point of insanity. Kinda like me! Amidst commotion and chaos they produced Not Thinkin’ Anymore, For a Lifetime and The Warbler. Lynn produced Antithesis of Blue (engineered by Matt Odmark. Yeah, the one in Jars of Clay) and Into the Drink (engineered by Aaron Chafin who used to be Stephen Leiweke’s intern before he was Shane Wilson’s intern and now he’s become a skilled knob twiddler... and it’s always good to have somebody under 30 around to ask if the harmonica part is cool or goofy). I had coffee at Crema with my vagabond, fiddler friend, Jeffrey Niemeier (we met in Russia a few years ago, nevermind all that) busking his way across the country content to live in his car... so I brought him to Lynn’s, recorded him on 2 songs late into the evening, took him home for the night and handed him 3 twenties in the morning (just enough to fill his tank). Peace to you, Jeffrey! Wayne Everett (who produced Skinny 18 years ago) flew down from New York for a few inspirational days. We wrote Cloudburst and tracked most of it with Britt. Then I took it to Lynn’s for overdubs (engineered one night by Matt Odmark and another day by Aaron). Next I took the drive to Stephen Leiweke (Yackland Nashville, TN) where he and Matt Slocum played more electric guitars. So Cloudburst was like the flea that leapt from dog to dog. Stephen Leiweke produced and recorded the last song on the album, That’s How It’s Gonna Be, and recorded Matt’s cellos on Into the Drink. Oh yeah, and I flew to So Cali to hang out with Derri and his dad in Cerritos and to record a song with those Prayer Chain guys, Andy Prickett and Eric Compuzano. They produced Oblivious one Saturday night from 8pm to 3am. I thought it was gonna be a rockin’ tune but they were like, “Take the capo off. Tune down a half step. Slow it way down. Hit the drums with a brush and a mallet. Put your T-shirt on the snare drum. Think Mazzy Star meets Cowboy Junkies…” Naturally, I did their bidding. I took it back to Britt’s place where he recorded Wayne on percussion and Christy Byrd. Christy sang… well, like a bird on so many songs. She’s among my favorite singers (and people) in the world. And she helped me so much with my own vocals… taught me how to push an earphone off one ear while singing doubles and so forth. Everyone involved taught me good things. See, I got LOVED. My brother, Tim Chandler, who lost his mind years ago, slept on my floor for 4 days and tried to ruin a bunch of tunes but failed because he’s too musical. Other beautiful artists who painted on the common canvas - Kevin Max, Andy Osenga, Steve Mason, Jimmy Abegg, Justin Cary and Phil Madeira. It’s wonderful how making music is most often a community endeavor!
All songs mixed by Shane D. Wilson (St Izzy’s of the East Nashville, TN) who turned up the tambourine and vocal harmonies an extra half inch because he cares about people. Mastered by Nigel Palmer (Lowland Masters, Essex, UK) which is the record production equivalent of putting a clay pot into a kiln and firing it so all the colors become more vibrant. Thanks Nigel.
Thanks to Dan Michaels for undying devotion and to Lisa Michaels, my beloved handler.
Dad and Mom, you exemplify peace, love and joy. I’m deeply grateful for you. Dear Nancy, you have provided unrelenting support for me and my unreasonable, often selfish “career” for 3 decades without reservation, even those times when our utilities got shut off. I can’t find adequate words to thank you. Emily and Erin, I’m so proud of you and I sure do love you!

From my heart, thanks to YOU for listening.

Sincere appreciation to all who supported my kickstarter!
